Migration and the limits of mercy

Your compassion has a cost. Who is paying it?

1. There is no wealth in the world. Daily we work, and that work gets converted into money in the form of our salaries. No work, no money. Even as entrepreneurs, we can not create any money if we are not allowed to be entrepreneurs by the State or by other gangs capable of violence.

Likewise, there is no Capital in the world. If men do not possess the skills/integrity to deploy the factors of production, of which Capital is but one part, the accumulated Capital will also get destroyed. Even the Capital contained in the machinery, roads, bridges and buildings will get destroyed in a hostile environment.

Therefore, the poor people of other countries will not become rich just by migrating to a rich country if they do not possess the needed skills and moral values which make a society rich.

2. To work, a man needs somebody’s business, industry, factory or trade. These things require peace and rule of law. The man must be safe in his home, in his travels, and at the place of his work. His property must be safe. Only then business, industry, factory and trade become possible.

3. Even government needs businesses, industries, factories and trade to tax and thus meet its own expenditure. Government is a net cost to the society. Even if it pretends to run businesses, it always incurs losses in them if it does not make them a monopoly by law. And these monopolies survive only so long as there are private enterprises to make good these losses by paying taxes.

4. Not all people are moral enough to obey rule of law. If such people migrate to your country, they will destroy the businesses, industries, factories and trade; and as a consequence, your job. So you will get no salary at the end of the month. Even as entrepreneur you will get destroyed as they will destroy your enterprise also.

5. In all swimming classes, swimmers are taught that if they have not been trained how to rescue a drowning man, they must not jump to save him. He will drown you also with himself.

6. Mercy is a good thing but not if it threatens survival of your own country. If the people of Bahraich district in UP, currently being ravaged by wolves, become merciful to the wolves, they will all die. You can’t be merciful to the people who think of you as a meal. Or an enemy.

7. Therefore opening borders to wrong kind of people is mass suicide, not mercy. They may be having neither the skills your society may need, they may even be not following moral laws of your society. It is impossible to share a society with somebody who doesn’t share your morality.

8. If migration is fairly low compared with the host population, the migrants may be forced to assimilate and adopt the culture of the host society. But if the borders have been opened and migrants are flooding your society, the force you may exert may be inadequate to force them to change to your laws of morality.

9. And lastly, being money minded without being mindful of the fact that evil exists and will always exist, will leave you not only without money, but even without the head where mind lives.
