Student activist Sharjeel Usmani, who was arrested from his home at Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday evening (last week) for allegedly organising the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests. Usmani has been charged for instigating violence during the December 2019 protests against CAA and the National Register of Citizens.

Usmani has been arrested related to four cases of anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in Aligarh Muslim University campus last year. He was produced in court and was sent to 14-days judicial custody on Thursday. There are multiple FIRs against Usmani for the violence that erupted in AMU campus.

Arvind Kumar, Aligarh Additional Superintendent of Police said, “Sharjeel was wanted in five criminal cases registered against him, including the one on attacking police during anti-CAA protest at the AMU main gate on December 15.” He confirmed the arrest, even though there is no official statement by the state police on his arrest.

According to the reports published in The Quint, Sharjeel’s father Tariq Usmani said that he was picked up by five policemen, dressed in civil clothes. Usmani’s father said the family only got to know about his whereabouts after he was sent to judicial custody.

“I refuse to believe it is an arrest,” said Usmani’s father. “They did not tell us what charges were being pressed, they did not allow us to have any conversation with him.” His mother Seema Usmani said: “As a parent, and more importantly, as citizens, we have the right to know.”

In the first information report, the police named Usmani and several other AMU students and alumni. They were accused of offences under various sections, including 307 (attempt to murder) and 147 (rioting), of the Indian Penal Code as well as other relevant sections of the Criminal Law Amendment Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. The police have also filed a charge sheet in the matter. The case will now go to trial. платиза займ личный кабинетзайм на киви без паспортагрин займ займ под высокий процентзайм под птс казаньоформить займ на яндекс деньги
